Ditching Missing Sync for Spanning Sync
I just dumped Missing Sync for Blackberry in favor of Spanning Sync. It may sound strange to switch from software meant to sync with a mobile device in favor of one that syncs with the Gooleverse, but I had a plan.
I’m basically now using the Google cloud as the intermediary for syncing between my BlackBerry and my computer. So, I’m using Spanning Sync for the sync between my Mac and Google and then Google Sync for Blackberry to handle the syncing between Google and my BlackBerry.
This has proven to be significantly more reliable then the Missing Sync with the side benefit of having the calendar and contacts associated with my GAFYD account also in sync.
There was really only one issue that required some effort to get resolved and that was the handling of repeating events where one of the events has changed.
For example, I have a weekly meeting that I scheduled in iCal as a weekly repeating event for the whole year. Occasionally this meeting is moved to a different date or time or cancelled altogether.
Unfortunately, these irregularities didn’t sync well with Google. Some didn’t show up at all, some showed up on their “regularly scheduled” time instead of their individual modifications. Working around this problem was as simple as deleting them out of iCal and then creating them in Google Calendar and then doing a sync.
Spanning Sync also has an excellent referral program. Basically, if your purchase Spanning Sync with a referral code, you save $5 and the person’s code that you used (ideally mine: P4QHEM) also gets $5.
So, just in case you missed it in the last paragraph that code is P4QHEM. Even easier just click on the lovely image above.
