The Break-in

December 28th, 2007

As many of you now know, our new office was broken into late night on December 26th. The intruder smashed the window of a 1st floor suite to gain entrance into the building and then smashed the window of our entrance from the hallway. Besides our office, he broke into 4 other ones as well.

Fortunately, the police apprehended the suspect not 1/4 mile away from the building as he attempted to make his getaway on bicycle – yes, that’s right, bicycle.

Those of you in the Grand Rapids area will remember the day after Christmas as a day of much snow, cold and wind. I can only assume the 30 mph crosswind as well as a foot or so of snow on the ground slowed his pedaling up considerably.

Nothing was taken from our office. On bicycle there was a limited amount of stuff that he could carry away and judging by what he took from other offices, laptops were his main object of desire. The funny thing is that we all have, use and love our laptops. So much so that there were none in our office because most of us won’t make a trip to lunch without it. The idea of leaving it at the office over the long holiday weekend is completely crazy.
